What College GameDay had to say about South Carolina-Ole Miss

What College GameDay had to say about South Carolina-Ole Miss

Every Saturday, College GameDay breaks down the top matchups across the country. While the majority of this week’s coverage centered around Cal-Miami, South Carolina vs. Ole Miss got some time on air.

Other than Pat McAfee’s obligatory jokes surrounding the team’s mascot name, the GameDay crew of McAfee, Nick Saban, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, and Rece Davis (Lee Corso was under the weather and did not make the trip to Berkeley) didn’t have a lot to say about the Gamecocks or their fifth opponent.

Prior to the panel making their official game selections, some voices in the crowd threw some shade at a South Carolina football fan who had an embarrassing attempt at a $120,000 33-yard field goal. A few moments later, a Cal student drilled the kick (on a second try). The make also earned a $600,000 donation for Hurricane Helene relief.

When it came time for picks, the desk split over Saturday’s outcome.

McAfee and Desmond Howard picked Ole Miss. Both Saban and Herbstreit picked the Gamecocks to win outright. Celebrity guest picker Marshawn Lynch gave a shout-out to Sidney Rice as he picked USC, as well. For those counting at home, the South Carolina earned 3 of the 5 GameDay picks.

Ole Miss is favored in the game, but the spread has moved around a bit. Fluctuating between making the Rebels 7.5 and 10-point favorites, Las Vegas seems to disagree with the GameDay team.

Before the picks began, both Kirk Herbstreit and Nick Saban picked South Carolina to cover the spread. Saban chose the game as his “Superdog” pick and said Mrs. Terry also picked the Gamecocks.

At 3:30 p.m., South Carolina will go for the mild upset in front of a sold-out crowd in Williams-Brice Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN and streamed on the ESPN app.
