WATCH: Tim Couch accepts College Football Hall of Fame plaque during Kentucky vs. Georgia

WATCH: Tim Couch accepts College Football Hall of Fame plaque during Kentucky vs. Georgia

Kentucky currently leads No. 1 Georgia 3-0. After Alex Raynor’s 55-yard field goal to take the lead vs. the Bulldogs, a former Cat who knows a thing or two about upsets at Commonwealth Stadium was honored.

During the break between the first and second quarters, Tim Couch was recognized on the field. The Kentucky Football legend will become just the sixth former Wildcat to be enshrined into the College Football Hall of Fame this December, a long overdue honor.

Before coming to Lexington, Couch made history at Leslie County High School, setting national records for pass completions (872), passing yards (12,104), and touchdown passes (133) and winning National Player of the Year in 1995. He famously turned down Phil Fulmer and Tennessee to play for his home-state Wildcats. After a rocky freshman season under Bill Curry, the Deuce was turned loose under Hal Mumme.

In the Air Raid offense, Couch shined, breaking seven NCAA records, 14 SEC records, and 26 school records. He finished his college career with 795 completions in 1,184 attempts (67.1 percent) for 8,435 yards and 74 touchdowns. In 1998, Couch was a Heisman finalist, a Consensus First Team All-American, and SEC Player of the Year.

Each member of the 2024 College Football Hall of Fame Class is being honored at their alma mater prior to December’s enshrinement ceremony. Couch was presented with a Hall of Fame plaque that will stay on permanent display at UK. Those who attended today’s game get to take home rally towels in the shape of Couch’s No. 2 Kentucky jersey, a very cool keepsake.
