WATCH: Mark Stoops discusses Georgia, Ohio in Monday Press Conference

The script was very different from the South Carolina game, but Mark Stoops said it was another rough Sunday around the Kentucky Football practice facility as the Cats processed the 13-12 loss to No. 1 Georgia. Instead of celebrating one of the biggest upsets in program history, Kentucky fell to 1-2, which Stoops said was an even tougher pill to swallow after spending Sunday in the film room.

“Another difficult weekend for us, Sunday, going in and watching the film and in throughout the evening Sunday,” Stoops said at today’s press conference. “I guess, equally as difficult as last week, but in different ways. You feel like you had a great opportunity to get a victory against a great football team and just came up short.”

By now, you’ve probably read that Stoops still doesn’t regret his decision to punt it on 4th and 8 at midfield with three minutes to go in the fourth quarter. What he does regret is not running the ball more leading up to that play. Although he’s ultimately proud of his team for responding following the loss to South Carolina, he admitted it’s hard not to get caught up in “what if”s.

“I’m very proud of the way they responded and played extremely hard. And if we’re a little more precise, we have a really good chance to win that game. Those are the plays we got to make. You know what I mean? So very proud of them. But I’m hanging on to the one or two that we didn’t play right and that bothers me.”

With Ohio coming to town on Saturday, there’s no more time to look back. The Bobcats are 2-1, beating South Alabama and Morgan State and losing to Syracuse in the opener.

“A team that’s a very good team,” Stoops said of Ohio. “And I know most of the time when I say that, most fans don’t believe me, but I think this year, you could tell by looking at the MAC and some of the very big victories that they’ve had this year, that they’re not a joke.”
