Vanderbilt vs. Missouri: Thursday injury report revealed

On Saturday, Vanderbilt and Missouri will square off at Memorial Stadium in Columbia, Missouri. The game will be both teams’ first conference matchup of the season.

Missouri has won the last four meetings between the two programs, most recently defeating the Commodores 38-21 last season. With two wins already under its belt this season, Vanderbilt will be hungry to turn the tide against the Tigers.

Missouri

Vanderbilt won’t lack motivation against Missouri. After an excellent 2-0 start to the season, Vanderbilt fell in stunning 36-32 fashion to Georgia State in Week 3. In the loss, Vanderbilt’s defense couldn’t find stops, allowing Georgia State to tally 426 total yards.

For reference, Vanderbilt only gave up 397 yards to Virginia Tech in its Week 1 victory over the Hokies, who many people believed could be a contender for the ACC title. Vanderbilt head coach Clark Lea believes his team lost focus against Georgia State.

“We maybe punched beyond expectations early, not internal expectations, but external,” Lea said. “And that’s fine. We can’t allow that external perception to drive anything that we do. But I think sometimes you get distracted by your own success, and again, we have a good team, but we’re not good enough to play a distracted game.”

Although Missouri is still undefeated this season, the Tigers came extremely close to falling to Boston College last weekend. The Eagles soared to an early 14-3 lead and the Tigers had to claw their way back to a nail-biting win.

In the victory, wide receiver Luther Burden III was excellent as usual, hauling in six receptions for 117 yards and a score. Running back Nate Noel was also exceptional and recorded a team-high 121 rushing yards.

On Tuesday, Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz praised Vanderbilt and emphasized how his team is not overlooking the Commodores.

“It’s going to be a real challenge for us,” Drinkwitz said. “It’s not about our opponent, it’s about us and our approach and how much better we can improve. How much more disciplined and consistent we can be in all three phases in the ownership that we take to that.”
