Vanderbilt goalposts arrive on Broadway amid Alabama upset celebration

Vanderbilt goalposts arrive on Broadway amid Alabama upset celebration

It didn’t take long for the students to take the field after Vanderbilt stunned No. 1 Alabama on Saturday. They quickly went for the goalposts – and it became clear they were heading to Broadway.

That was, in fact, the destination. The goalposts officially arrived on Broadway amid the celebration, more than a half hour after Vanderbilt put the finishing touches on the upset of the season to this point.

Vanderbilt put together a complete performance to get the victory, which came one week after Alabama held on to defeat Georgia in Tuscaloosa. It marked the Commodores’ first win over the Crimson Tide since 1984, meaning it was a celebration 40 years in the making.

Vanderbilt put together a complete performance to pull off the stunner on its home field. The Commodores totaled 418 yards of offense, but the defense made one of the biggest plays of the day when Randon Fontonette picked off Jalen Milroe and took it to the house for a touchdown. It was quite the day in Nashville, and the celebration was only just beginning.

Diego Pavia had a monster game with both his arm and his legs to lead the charge for Vanderbilt. He completed 16 of 20 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns in the air while also adding 56 rushing yards on the ground as Alabama had trouble stopping the option.

When the clock hit zeroes, the celebration began. Amid the sea of students on the field at FirstBank Stadium, Pavia shared an emotional (and also NSFW) reaction to the upset during his postgame interview with SEC Network’s Alyssa Lang.

“It’s literally all God’s timing,” Pavia said. “Literally, from the jump. God gave me a vision when I was a little kid. And He don’t let back any promises. It’s God’s timeline. I’m super thankful. Super thankful for guys like Eli Stowers. Man, that kid’s are incredible. The rest of our team. I mean, look at this. Look at this. Vandy, we’re fucking turnt!”
