Urban Meyer: USC is biggest threat to Ohio State due to D’Anton Lynn
Urban Meyer likes what he sees out of USC so much, he called the Trojans the biggest threat to Ohio State in the Big Ten.
Why, you ask? New defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn is why. USC’s defense has been completely remade and was rolling through the first two games.
Now with a road game against Michigan on tap Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET., USC can really prove itself with a win in Big Ten play.
“Yeah, as of three to four games into the season, I think it’s the hire of the year in D’Anton Lynn,” Meyer said on Big Noon Kickoff. “They hired him from crosstown rival UCLA. This was a team that averaged double digit missed tackles. We’re talking about the USC’s defense. And I had no idea, I started watching them on Big Ten Network, getting ready to watch and I think, ‘Wait a minute, this is an excellent tackling team.’”
Because of the defense, coupled with Lincoln Riley’s usually great offense, USC is about to knock off Ohio State at the top. Maybe.
“Matt, you’re a Trojan,” Meyer said to Matt Leinart. “I’ve not been on the bandwagon for a couple years because they don’t play solid defense. I’m all over USC … Them and Oregon. They’ve really added some depth to this conference. I think they might be the biggest threat to Ohio State.”

Earlier this month, Riley raved about USC’s new-look defensive staff, led by Lynn.
“My expectations were pretty high,” Riley said. “They were pretty high. They’ve done a good job. Like I’ve told y’all, I knew the quality of the individuals, but how well do they come together? Both them and the players, everybody together, it’s still the power of the unit, not the power of the individuals and that’s been so far so good.”
