Trevor Etienne wishes Florida ‘nothing but the best’ amid slow start

Trevor Etienne wishes Florida ‘nothing but the best’ amid slow start

Georgia Bulldogs running back Trevor Etienne has seen the struggles that his former team, the Florida Gators are going through, and is wishing them the best as they deal with a slow start.

To this point in the year, the Gators are just 1-2 to open the season with their win coming against an FCS opponent. With that, and a difficult upcoming schedule, Florida head coach Billy Napier has found himself on the hot seat.

“Wishing them nothing but the best,” Trevor Etienne said. “They struggled early on but hopefully they can get things going in the right direction down there, hopefully.”

Trevor Etienne played two seasons for the Florida Gators under Billy Napier. During that time, he became known as one of the best running backs in the country, rushing for 1,472 yards and 14 touchdowns over two seasons. On top of that, he managed to catch 30 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown through the air.

After being suspended for the opening game of the season this year, Etienne has stepped into a major role on the Georgia offense this year. That role saw him lead the Bulldogs in rushing against Kentucky with 79 yards on the ground.

On top of that, Etienne is working to earn the confidence of his new teammates around him. One way for him to do that was by playing through pain against Kentucky. While dealing with a shoulder injury, he was able to continue to make an impact on the game. That earned the praise of his head coach, Kirby Smart.

“I mean, he made something out of nothing about eight times,” Smart said. “Some of those were some of the best runs we’ve had all year because people standing in the hole unblocked and he’s making them miss and getting extra yards. A lot of respect for the way he played…I mean, Etienne played dinged up tonight, and just proud of the way he stuck it in there and played. And the other backs supported him because they can’t all be in there at the same time.”

As far as the team is concerned, Trevor Etienne has found himself in a very different situation in his brief time with the Georgia Bulldogs. The Bulldogs are currently the No. 2 team in the AP Poll and are considered one of the favorites to not just win the SEC but to make a deep run in the College Football Playoff and compete for a national championship.

On the other hand, Florida is in a tense situation with the rumors swirling around Napier’s future a schedule that is making a bowl game look difficult to make at this point.

Part of that difficult upcoming schedule for Florida, of course, includes their annual game against Georgia. That game is coming in early November and will undoubtedly be an emotionally charged game for Trevor Etienne.
