No. 5 Ole Miss is seeking its fourth win in as many weeks against a capable, 2-1 Georgia Southern on Saturday. The teams will kick off at 6:45 p.m. CT on the SEC Network.

The Eagles are the best team the Rebels have played so far — the first of four Ole Miss storylines I see as either trending or ending with kickoff around the corner. ENDING is the Rebels’ preseason concerns about their running back room. TRENDING? Tennessee is being wish-casted into a role the Rebels are already playing on the national stage.

Ole Miss is No. 2 nationally and leads the SEC in explosive plays (20 yards or more). Tied for first in the country for receptions of 15 yards or more is star Rebel wide receiver Tre Harris. He’s got 13.

The Rebels are one of three teams in the country that hasn’t allowed a touchdown this season. The others are Ohio State and Georgia. Ole Miss has the highest-graded defense (92.8) in football, according to Pro Football Focus. The Rebels are No. 1 in the nation in defensive rushing efficiency. They haven’t allowed a touchdown through three games for the first time since 1961.

Tennessee is really good. But the same criticisms Ole Miss is getting — the Rebels haven’t played anybody, etc. — aren’t being equally applied to the Volunteers.

I’m just saying, national-media types: Save some of that Tennessee energy for Ole Miss.

That’s probably really hard for a lot of you, seeing as you tried to bury the Rebels in 2016 and yet here they are, title-chasing not even 10 years later.
