Tim Tebow: Alex Orji starting over Davis Warren will ‘give Michigan a lot of life’ against USC
After a slow start to the season for quarterback Davis Warren, the Michigan Wolverines have decided to make a change under center, as they’ll start Alex Orji on Saturday against the USC Trojans.
Sherrone Moore recognized the importance of Week 4’s clash at The Big House, and he’s putting his faith in Orji on Saturday. Ahead of the Big Ten clash, Tim Tebow made an appearance on SportsCenter, where he explained what he’s expecting to see from the freshly-minted Michigan starting quarterback.
“I think he’s going to be able to give them a lot of life,” Tebow said, regarding Orji. “This is a kid that has a little bit of experience. He’s been there three years. He’s been able to learn from J.J. McCarthy, and he’s a very gifted athlete. I mean, he really is a physical freak. This is a guy that is extremely fast. He’s a 600-pound squatter. He’s not just someone that can get to the outside, but he’s actually also more of a downhill runner. Like, this is a guy that you need to expect him to carry the ball on third and three or less. He’s also someone that can make the throws.
“Now, the question is, will he be able to pick up all of the different blitzes and coverages? Because in the first few weeks, we’ve been able to see USC bring a lot of different blitzes and coverage. That’s something that his running game will be able to shut down early, if they can get it going.”

Alas, it’s evident Tebow believes Orji will give Michigan a boost on Saturday. Moore is expecting the best from his new starting quarterback, as well. Perhaps Orji is just a gamer, because the Wolverines leader did point out Warren was out-performing him in practice.
“Like I said, I thought he was in a really good place, and Davis outperformed him in camp at the end,” Moore said of Orji Monday. “I would love to see him just take the reins and do what he’s been doing through those first couple weeks. I think he will.
“He’s had a great couple weeks of practice. So has Davis, but obviously you got to perform in the game. Excited to see what Alex is going to do. He’s been in here, studying his tail off the past couple days, like he always is. But you can see it ramped up even more.”
Alex Orji will lead Michigan into battle at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, and that game can be seen on CBS. You certainly won’t want to miss the first conference battle between the Trojans and the Wolverines.
