Texas High School Football Rankings: Top 25 – Sept. 15

Texas High School Football Rankings: Top 25 – Sept. 15

After another scintillating week of high school football around the state of Texas, the top 25 rankings have again updated.

Duncanville remains as the Lone Star State’s top dog, but there have been plenty of other teams moving up and down the rankings after Friday and Saturday’s games.

Below are the top 25 teams in state, per the On3 Massey Ratings:

The On3 Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory. According to the model — four teams from Alabama rank inside the nationwide top 100.

1. Duncanville

Previous: No. 1
After being idle in Week 1, the Panthers traveled to face Dallas-area rival South Oak Cliff and handily defeated them 34-12. Things turned up a notch in Week 2 when they welcome nationally ranked St. Frances Academy (Md.) to Texas. Behind another stellar performance Alabama QB commit Keelon Russell, the No. 3 signal-caller in the senior class, they gutted out a 28-24 victory and avoided the upset.

2. Southlake Carroll

Previous: No. 2
The Dragons made relatively easy work of Midland in Week 1 in a 48-24 romp, then dominated Hebron to get off to a 2-0 start. Awaiting them in Week 3 was a matchup with top-15 foe Byron Nelson, and while the Bobcats put up a fight, Carroll ultimately pulled away for a 33-21 victory to move to 3-0.

3. North Shore

Previous: No. 3
North Shore dominated South Oak Cliff 38-0 to open the season and then handled Crowley 28-13 in Week 2. The Mustangs smothering defense overwhelmed Westfield 47-3 on Friday night as they stayed undefeated.

4. Atascocita

Previous: No. 4
Atascocita pulled off one of the biggest — and most impressive — wins of the early season by beating a strong Katy team 41-24. A top-10 showdown with Austin Westlake over the weekend again put them to the test, but they passed with flying colors by rolling to a 39-21 that ended the Chaps’ 44-game regular season winning streak dating back to 2018. Eagles quarterback Cardae Mack threw for 277 yards and four touchdowns, adding 111 rushing yards and a score, which included picking up a fumble and sprinting 56 yards to the end zone.

5. North Crowley

Previous: No. 6 (+1)
North Crowley won one of its biggest games in recent memory by beating DeSoto in a thriller last weekend — handing them their first loss since the 2022-23 season. Their reward? Hosting No. 7 Denton Guyer in another massive showdown with the Panthers rolling to a 49-28 blowout win. Wide receiver Quentin Gibson continued his torrid start to the season, hauling in seven receptions for 253 yards and four touchdowns.

6. DeSoto

Previous: No. 5 (-1)
The defending state champion Eagles were flying high after a 70-0 win over Creekside (Ga.) on opening weekend. They faced a different beast in Week 2 with top-10 foe North Crowley, who ultimately won a wild shootout 57-51. After licking their wounds for a few days, the Eagles blitzed an impressive Miller 57-21.

7. Allen

Previous: No. 9 (+2)
Allen’s game against Cedar Hill looked to be one of the more competitive on paper in the state two weeks ago, but the Eagles were dominant in a 42-14 win. They followed it up with another strong performance against Rock Hill, rolling to a 44-3 win and notching their third win of the season.

8. Summer Creek

Previous: No. 10 (+2)
The Bulldogs have absolutely blitzed their first three opponents this season, beating Shadow Creek, Lamar and Spring by a combined score of 156-0. TCU four-star EDGE commit Chad Woodfork leads a talented defense. After losing to DeSoto in last year’s state title game, Summer Creek is on a mission early in 2024.

9. Lake Travis

Previous: No. 13 (+4)
Led by USC defensive line commit Gus Cordova, the Cavaliers has been as impressive as anyone early in the season by moving into the top 10. Sandwiched between blowout wins over Martin and Arlington Legacy is a close win over Rockwall, which sits just outside this week’s top-25.

10. Longview

Previous: No. 11 (+1)
The Lobos’ defense was elite to start the season, holding Lufkin and Marshall to a combined 10 points in the first two games. But they faced a different beast on Friday night against South Oak Cliff, who despite being 0-2, boasts one of the state’s most talented rosters. The Golden Bears pulled off the 45-44 upset, but Longview remains in the top 10.
