Tennessee players react to walk in the park blowout over Kent State

Tennessee players react to walk in the park blowout over Kent State

Tennessee pummeled Kent State from the jump and moved to 3-0 on the season. After the game, select Tennessee players met the media to discuss the win.

Tennessee Football has set a new scoring record. The Vols scored 37 points in the first quarter against Kent State Saturday night at Neyland Stadium, setting a new record for scoring in a single quarter.

““Just as a football team, started fast. There’s some things that we got to clean up. But all in all, good performance,” coach Josh Heupel said afterwards. Controlled the line of scrimmage, got off the field on third down. Offensively, was able to run the football and create some big plays as well. Special teams was a solid performance as well.”

Tennessee forced a Kent State three-and-out to start the game and quickly went to work offensively, driving straight down the field with a 22-yard touchdown run from Dylan Sampson to open the scoring. The drive covered 73 yards in seven plays. Sampson didn’t finish the half due to the state of the game but went over 100 yards for the 4th straight game dating back to the bowl game.

“He’s got great vision, got great pace. Presses the line of scrimmage. Delivers blocks. He is elusive out in space and you combine all those things,” Heupel continued. “You got somebody that can be efficient with football in his hands and certainly he would give credit to five offensive linemen, the tight ends and all the skill guys out the perimeter to that big part of it as well.”

Nico Iamaleava sat back in a clean pocket and threw a perfect deep ball to Chris Brazzell II, who hauled in the 53-yard touchdown, his first with the Vols. It was Iamaleava’s only touchdown on the night.

DeSean Bishop had touchdown runs of 53 and 47 yards in his first 100 yard rushing game of his career.
