Steve Sarkisian credits Quinn Ewers, humility for Arch Manning’s development

Steve Sarkisian credits Quinn Ewers, humility for Arch Manning’s development

The Texas Longhorns have one of the deepest quarterback rooms in America. It’s a good problem to have, but with the last name that Arch Manning has, it’s certainly a unique situation for coaches and players to deal with. On the Wednesday version of the Jim Rome Show, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian gave Quinn Ewers plenty of credit with Arch Manning’s development this season.

“I’m curious about Arch [Manning] coming in. I’m curious. We’ve all been waiting on Arch. We’ve all known about Arch. What’s he like on a personal level and then how do you think he’s taken advantage of that opportunity?” Rome asked.

“First of all Arch is a great kid. He was a joy to recruit. He and his family were awesome, just to get to know them in the recruiting process. He came here at the University of Texas because this is where he wanted to be. It always was a childhood dream of his to play at the University of Texas. But he came in with a ton of humility.” Sarkisian explained.

“Extremely humble young man. He’s a great teammate. If his name wasn’t Manning on the back of his jersey you wouldn’t know it, by the way he carries himself. The type of teammate that he is. I think the rapport that he and Quinn [Ewers] have with one another has led to a lot of his success. Because I think he’s very coachable. He wants to learn. He can learn from others. But his development I think has probably been the biggest key. From where he was a year and a half ago when he first got here in spring practice. To the way he played last weekend,” Sarkisian continued.

“And so, you know, that’s a credit to his work ethic. It’s a credit to the staff of working with him. And so, proud of him for he’s able to accomplish. And we’re in a very fortunate situation to have a starter like Quinn, but to have a capable backup in Arch is huge for us for the long-term perspective,” Sarkisian finished.

In 2024, Manning has looked sharp, completing 70.5% of his passes for 900 yards, while tossing in nine touchdowns with two interceptions. As a runner, he has 13 carries for 82 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

The Texas Longhorns (5-0) will face off against the Oklahoma Sooners next in the Red River Rivalry. That one is slated for Saturday, October 12th.
