St. John Bosco-Servite battle set to take place at Los Angeles Rams’ SoFi Stadium

St. John Bosco-Servite battle set to take place at Los Angeles Rams’ SoFi Stadium

A showdown between two of California’s best high school football teams is getting an even bigger stage next month.

The October 18 game between St. John Bosco and Servite will be played at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, home of the L.A. Rams, according to SI.com’s Tarek Fattal.

The two Trinity League rivals are among the best teams not only in the Golden Bear State, but in the entire country.

In the most recent On3 Massey Ratings updated earlier this week, Bosco as the No. 2 team nationally and in the California state rankings, trailing behind only fellow Trinity League rival Mater Dei.

Servite, off to a 4-0 start, is a top-10 team in the state and a top-50 squad nationally, according to Massey.

Bosco has dominated their recent meetings, winning 56-27 in last season, 49-3 in 2022 and 24-10 in 2021. The Friars have proven themselves to be one of California’s most impressive teams this season though, rolling to early victories over Salt Lake City East, Murrieta Valley, Chaminade and Notre Dame.

The meat of their schedule begins in a few weeks though, as they’ll face J Serra Catholic, Mater Dei, Bosco, Orange Lutheran and Santa Margarita Catholic — all top-10 teams in the state rankings — over the final month-plus of the season.

Bosco, one of the nation’s premier programs over the past decade, has already faced a tough slate that featured Chaminade-Madonna Prep (Fla.), Eastwood, Sierra Canyon and Junipero Serra. The Braves sit at 4-0 and have scored 199 points (49.8 per game) over that span.

SoFi Stadium hosting loads of California talent

Last year, the first high school football game at SoFi was a battle between nearby Downey and Warren that saw a reported attendance 18,000, according to NBC Los Angeles.

The game between St. John Bosco and Servite, in which Servite will serve as the home team, will be the third high school game of the second of three high school games at SoFi Stadium this year. Mission Viejo and Long Beach Poly will face off on October 4, and the LA City Section’s East LA Classic between Roosevelt and Garfield will be played on October 25.

Bosco’s roster features more than a dozen Division I prospects and Power 4 commits, while Servite is led by Michigan State commit Leo Hannan.

Later in the season, the likes of Dijon Lee (Alabama commit), Phillip Bell (Ohio State commit) and more will be taking the field as well.
