South Carolina moves back into top-25 spot in recruiting rankings following huge 4-star pledge

On Friday, class of 2026 wide receiver Jordon Gidron (Ridge View High School; Columbia, South Carolina) announced a commitment to the South Carolina football program. However, with his announcement, the state’s top player in the ’26 cycle also revealed that he is reclassifying. Gidron will join the Gamecocks a year early, reclassifying from the 2026 class to 2025.

Gidron now is the higest-rated prospect in the class according to On3’s industry ranking and the fourth-highest in On3’s individual player rankings. Because he has not been evaluated as heavily as most of the 2025 class, Gidron still has plenty of room for upward mobility in the rankings before all is said and done.

The commitment moves the Gamecocks back into the top-25 in the On3 team recruiting rankings. South Carolina currently owns the 24th spot in the country and is in 13th place in the SEC.

Gamecock wide receivers coach Mike Furrey has done a tremendous job to fill the team’s need at wide receiver. With at least three players graduating at the position, South Carolina needs to sign a big wideout class. It looks like that is exactly what will happen. In addition to Gidron and the possibilities of a couple more major targets joining the fold, the Gamecocks already have received pledges from 4-star prospects Lex Cyrus and Brian Rowe and 3-star recruit Jayden Sellers.

South Carolina is in line to sign one of the top wide receiver recruiting classes in all of college football. However, based on some other recruiting movement, things could be getting even better.

Earlier in the week, USC got more good news for the potential future at the wide receiver position. Donovan Murph (Irmo High School), a fellow 4-star pass-catcher in the ’26 class, also reclassified to 2025. 4-star Malik Clark (Rock Hill High School) publically decommitted from the Florida State Seminoles, as well. There is optimism around the Gamecock fanbase that Shane Beamer’s team is in a good position for both players.
