SMU vs. Louisville: How to watch, channel, streaming

The SMU Mustangs hit the road for the first time in a month this week, traveling to take on the No. 22-ranked Louisville Cardinals on Saturday.

SMU, now 4-1, is coming off of a decisive victory over Florida State. They took down the Seminoles in their inaugural ACC matchup, 42-16. Meanwhile, Louisville is reeling from a 31-24 defeat against Notre Dame last weekend. After giving up 21 points in the first quarter, the Cardinals mounted a comeback effort that fell short in the fourth quarter.

Despite their hot streak of late, the Mustangs enter the matchup against Louisville as a 6.5-point underdog, according to FanDuel on Thursday. The line has shifted, however, from -11 for Louisville at the open to -6.5. The over/under total for the game is currently 56.5 points. Moreover, SMU’s moneyline to win is +195, while Louisville’s moneyline is -240.

On Saturday, SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee is expecting Louisville to present a balanced attack, led by veteran quarterback Tyler Shough. Shough is in his seventh season and his third program, where he’s running Jeff Brohm’s offense with very few mistakes so far.

“(Shough’s) playing with a lot of confidence—11 touchdowns to 1 interception. He’s got great weapons…” Lashlee said this week. “They’ve got a couple of guys playing at a high level, and Coach Brohm is known for developing quarterbacks and having explosive, balanced offenses.

“We’ve played really good passing teams like TCU, and we’ve played teams that run the ball well, like Florida State or Nevada. BYU tried to be balanced. But this is probably the most balanced attack we’ll face. We’ll be stressed and strained defensively, so it’ll take everything we’ve got.”

The Mustangs will once again start quarterback Kevin Jennings under center this week. Like Shough, Jennings has thrown just one interception this year after taking over for Preston Stone. He’ll try to keep SMU’s high-powered offense firing against Louisville’s stingy defense, just as the Mustangs defense will try to continue wreaking havoc on opposing offenses. Lashlee’s defense has 14 takeaways this year, which leads the FBS.
