Six Michigan football freshmen have seen game action in 2024

Michigan Wolverines football true freshmen have made minimal impacts through three games, with only six players seeing the field and combining for 51 snaps. Freshmen can play in up to four regular-season games without burning their redshirts (postseason contests do not count against that number).

Linebacker Cole Sullivan leads the way with 31 snaps, 27 of which have come on special teams. Sullivan is on Michigan’s kick return and kick coverage units, and he also logged 1 snap on punt return.

EDGE Dominic Nichols has joined him on defense, playing 7 snaps against Arkansas State, as has defensive tackle Manuel Beigel (3 snaps versus the Red Wolves).

Running back Jordan Marshall made his debut against Texas, serving as Michigan’s kick returner. He had 3 attempts for 51 yards with a 19-yard long. He was listed as out for last game, dealing with an undisclosed injury.

Tight end Hogan Hansen has also had the ball in his hands. He was the recipient of a 9-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Alex Orji against Arkansas State. That was the first catch and touchdown of his collegiate career. He’s the only Michigan freshman to find the end zone so far this season.

Offensive lineman Andrew Sprague logged his first snap on Michigan’s kneel down to cap off a 28-18 win over the Red Wolves, lining up at right tackle.

The 19 other members of Michigan’s freshman class have yet to see the field. That group includes highly-touted quarterback Jadyn Davis. While he hasn’t competed in games yet and it’s unclear where he stands on the depth chart, head coach Sherrone Moore left open the option of playing him at some point.

Yeah, we’ve never had any conversations about that,” Moore said. “We just keep it open, and we’ll go from there.”

Here’s a look at each Michigan freshman and the amount of games and snaps they’ve registered this season.
