Shedeur Sanders reveals impact Mike Vick has on career

Shedeur Sanders reveals impact Mike Vick has on career

Quarterbacking, like any job, is best done with some mentorship. Be it a veteran in a position room, an experienced coach, or a trusted voice from the outside, they can all help a career along.

And if you’re the son of NFL legend Deion Sanders, your rolodex of quarterback soothsayers is likely quite voluminous. So it should be no surprise that when Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders looks for someone to lean on, he’s got friends in high places.

Like, for example, former Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Mike Vick. And the two talk about plenty more than just football.

“Well, you know who I have a genuine connection with is definitely Mike Vick. Mike Vick, we talk at least like once a week. Just like checking in on everything and always keeping me, I would say level,” Sanders said on his podcast. “Because it’s a lot of things that go on and things that happen, personally, just in life that you’ve gotta make sure your mental’s clear and you’ve gotta make sure you stay on task. So, he’s someone I definitely talk to.”

Along with Vick, Sanders has also developed a relationship, and regular line of communication, with former NFL quarterback and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich.

“I talk to Byron Leftwich a lot, also,” Sanders said. “Just played the position, that understand the pros and cons of everything, that’s always just trying to help. So them, I would say, is the main two like on a consistent basis that I speak with.”

Sanders gave a shoutout to a star true freshman

College football is full of freshmen who jump in and make an immediate impact, but a few select players will rise above the rest and instantly make a name for themselves at an even higher level. Enter Ryan Williams at Alabama.

The freshman wideout made the play of the game in a 41-34 win over Georgia, securing a catch in the fourth quarter, then making an insane move to beat the secondary and race to the end zone for the long, go-ahead score.

Sanders was watching, and appreciating what he saw.

“I saw that. That receiver is crazy, bro. He’s crazy, bro,” Sanders said on his podcast. “I first learned about him kind of like whenever [Deion “Bucky” Sanders Jr.] was playing with them on NCAA on College Football 25. I’m like, ‘Hey bruh, this guy that’s making all these plays, bruh, he got to do it in a game. He got to do it in a game, bro. He got to.’ Because in the game it was just being sick. But then you know he’s actually able to do that.”

Williams has done just that, converting his raw athleticism into production at the college level.

He’s not just playing well for a freshman, either. He’s having an All-American type season so far, one that has placed him among the elite playmakers in college football.

Ryan Williams has scored a touchdown in every game this season for the Crimson Tide. Through four games he’s got 16 catches for 462 yards and five touchdowns.

“I’m happy for him that he’s able to finally be able to shine his first year,” Sanders said. “I feel like he’s going to be a great receiver.”
