South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer made it clear in the aftermath of Saturday’s loss to LSU that he was not pleased with the officiating.

Beamer and South Carolina sent in several plays to the SEC where it felt like flags were either wrongfully thrown or should have been thrown and were not.

Beamer spoke with the media on Tuesday and was asked if he received a response from the SEC that he was pleased with.

“We don’t send in a lot of plays. We did this week because frankly there were a lot I wanted some clarification on that I disagreed with, or wasn’t sure what they were calling or why this was a penalty,” Shane Beamer said. “Some of them on Saturday were ones where we got flagged for this, but if we would’ve done this would we still be flagged? Stuff like that, things that I had had questions about.

“So there were some certainly that I maybe didn’t like what he said, but I get it. There were some that I absolutely was on board with with his response. And there were a couple that frankly, we can agree to disagree on some of them, as well.”

Beamer heard back from SEC head of officials John McDaid after sending in the plays. He received a video with commentary from McDaid detailing what he saw.

Beamer made it clear that he has a ton of respect for McDaid, even if he didn’t necessarily agree with him on every call.

“The voiceover comes back from John McDaid, he’s the head of officials, who was a referee in this league and was a referee way back in the Big East days when my dad was coaching and someone that I’ve got great respect for,” Shane Beamer said. “If I pick up the phone and call him, he’ll answer the phone year-round. So I’ve got a great relationship with him.

“And Jason, the head referee in that game Saturday, I’ve got great respect for him. He’s very professional and great to deal with on game days. A lot of times when we don’t send in plays after a game it’s honestly thinking that, like what’s the point? I know they missed it, so why do I need to send it in, as well.”

Beamer added that he’s thankful for the SEC and for McDaid for taking the time to go through every play and provide feedback.

“All good. I appreciate their responses and know that officials have a tough job,” Beamer said. “There’s a lot of plays in that game, and I’m sure LSU was upset with a lot of the things that maybe weren’t called on their end, who knows. But in the end it’s just like I told our team, officiating didn’t decide the game.

“Where there some impactful plays? Absolutely. Absolutely. And more in one game than I can remember. But at the same time, if we just do what we’re supposed to do and not even put it in officials’ hands, it’s a whole different story. “
