Scott Van Pelt puts hilarious announcer jinx on Eagles before Falcons comeback

Scott Van Pelt puts hilarious announcer jinx on Eagles before Falcons comeback

The Atlanta Falcons (1-1) pulled out a dramatic 22-21 Week 2 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles (1-1) on Monday Night Football, apparently to the surprise of ESPN‘s Scott Van Pelt.

Moments before Atlanta’s offense took the field down 21-15 with 1:39 remaining in the game, Van Pelt said on the broadcast they would take viewers inside the winning locker room after the game. All good, right? Well, Van Pelt followed that up with, “which appears it will be the home team.” Yes, this game took place at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. The Eagles were, in fact, the home team. The only problem is that they did not win the game. They lost. Perhaps you could say Van Pelt put the announcer jinx on the Eagles…

Now, Van Pelt had every right to assume Philadelphia would hold on for the win. After all, these are the Falcons, the team known for not finishing games. This is Kirk Cousins, the quarterback often criticized for not delivering in the big moment.

Somehow, those two things combined to create magic. Cousins orchestrated a six-play, 70-yard scoring drive, capping it off with a seven-yard touchdown strike to receiver Drake London.

Falcons pull off impressive comeback against Eagles on Monday Night Football

Atlanta did leave 34 seconds on the clock for Philadelphia to go down the field and win the game. But on the second play of Philadelphia’s possession, Atlanta’s defense made the game-winning play. Pro Bowl safety Jessie Bates intercepted Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts with 27 seconds remaining to seal the victory for the Falcons.

Cousins, making just his second start for Atlanta, finished his night 20-of-29 for 241 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning drive.
