Sam Pittman believes Hugh Freeze will win at Auburn: ‘No doubt in my mind’

Sam Pittman believes Hugh Freeze will win at Auburn: ‘No doubt in my mind’

Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman has seen countless coaches rise and fall during his career. On Monday, Pittman revealed his expectations for head coach Hugh Freeze‘s future at Auburn.

“There’s no doubt in my mind he’ll do a great job there,” Pittman said. “They play hard. I mean, they look the part. I think they’re gonna have a really good team throughout the entire season. I think they’ll be a hard out for whoever plays them.

“I have high respect for Coach Freeze. He does a wonderful job. He did a wonderful job when he was at Ole Miss before and a really, really smart guy. [He’s] smart, offensively. I’m sure he is defensively, too. But, offense is kind of his baby, and he does a wonderful, wonderful job.”

On Saturday, Arkansas and Auburn will face off. In Hugh Freeze’s debut campaign at the helm last season, he led the Tigers to a dominant 48-10 victory over the Razorbacks. This weekend, Freeze will look to add to his win streak against Pittman.

Auburn has had a turbulent start to the season. After handily defeating Alabama A&M 73-3 in Week 1, the Tigers suffered a 21-14 upset loss to California. Auburn QB Payton Thorne struggled in the loss, only throwing one touchdown compared to four interceptions.

In turn, Hugh Freeze started redshirt freshman Hank Brown behind center in Week 3. Brown led the Tigers to a 45-19 victory over New Mexico, completing 17-of-his-25 pass attempts for 235 yards and four scores. He didn’t throw an interception in the win.

Arkansas will be Auburn’s greatest test yet. The Razorbacks are 2-1 this season, with their sole loss coming against No. 14 Oklahoma State. Arkansas led the Cowboys for most of the game before they rattled off 18 points in the fourth quarter to force overtime.

Arkansas will be hungry to prove itself early in conference play. Brown is excited to face off against his first SEC foe.

“I’m really looking forward to it. It’s definitely an uptick in competition and they will definitely be a better defense than what we faced last week. But, I’m excited for it,” Brown said. “They’re a fundamentally sound defense. You know what you’re getting. I think the team is ready and we will go out and execute.”

On Saturday, Auburn and Arkansas will square off at 3:30 p.m. ET. The game will air live on ESPN.
