On3 named Texas true freshmen wide receiver Ryan Wingo and EDGE Colin Simmons as true freshmen standouts from week three of college football.

Wingo had three catches for 127 yards and a touchdown, including a 75-yard scoring reception from Arch Manning. Simmons was second on the team in tackles against UTSA with six, including 2.0 tackles for loss and a sack.

The Saint Louis native was on the receiving end of several long passes from Arch Manning in the Longhorns’ 56-7 romp over UTSA. Wingo got behind the defense early on in the third quarter for a 75-yard catch-and-run touchdown. He also later made an impressive contested catch on a deep out-breaking route. In addition to providing a vertical threat, Wingo has been an reliable target, showing strong hands. The No. 38 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking currently has the second most receiving yards for Texas, with 197.

Wingo was ranked as the No. 38 overall prospect, the No. 8 wide receiver, and the No. 2 player in Missouri in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking.

Simmons delivered the No. 5 true freshman performance of the week, per Power.

Through three games, Colin Simmons already looks like Texas’ best pass rusher. The former Five-Star Plus+ prospect continued his strong play against UTSA, registering six tackles, one sack and two tackles for loss. He also affected the quarterback on several plays, notching three pressures according to Pro Football Focus. On the sack, Simmons showed impressive ability to dip and bend around the edge. The 6-foot-3, 245-pounder is seemingly getting better every week, a scary proposition for future Texas opponents.

Simmons was ranked as the No. 15 overall prospect, the No. 2 EDGE, and the No. 5 player in Texas in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking.
