Russell Wilson injury update: Pittsburgh Steelers reveal inactives for SNF vs. Dallas Cowboys

Russell Wilson injury update: Pittsburgh Steelers reveal inactives for SNF vs. Dallas Cowboys

The Pittsburgh Steelers (3-1) have officially made quarterback Russell Wilson inactive for the Week 5 home matchup against the Dallas Cowboys (2-2) on Sunday Night Football.

Wilson will once again serve as the emergency third quarterback behind Justin Fields and Kyle Allen.

Fields will get his fifth consecutive start under center as Wilson continues to work his way back from the calf injury he sustained on the eve of training camp and aggravated just days ahead of the regular season opener.

Fields has performed well in Wilson’s absence, throwing for 830 yards, three touchdowns and one interception on a career-high 70.6% passing. In terms of completion percentage, Fields is seventh overall, sixth on throws 15 yards or more, seventh against the blitz and fifth outside the numbers.

Pittsburgh Steelers Week 5 inactives

QB Russell Wilson (3rd QB)
WR Roman Wilson
RB Jaylen Warren
LB Alex Highsmith
OG Max Scharping
TE MyCole Pruitt
RB/KR Cordarrelle Patterson

The Steelers will also be without the running back duo of Jaylen Warren and Cordarrelle Patterson against the Cowboys. Warren is out for the second consecutive week with a knee injury, while Patterson is sidelined with an ankle injury.

With Warren and Patterson out, it’ll be rookie tailback Aaron Shampklin backing up Najee Harris.

“Shamp is a very smart player,” Harris said this week of the former Harvard standout. “For his size too, very physical, just like Jaylen. We’re not shy or scared or anything about him going in there and running the ball or doing anything that all the other guys would do.

“Confident in him, confident in everybody in there. It’s no downgrade from anybody. We’re all excited about their opportunities. Shamp, this being his second NFL game, I’m excited for him.”
