Rapid Recap: Kansas State looking to minimize crowd noise

Rapid Recap: Kansas State looking to minimize crowd noise

Confidence in Kansas State receivers

Kansas State wide receiver Dante Cephas has gotten off to a bit of a slow start this season. He has just one catch for nine yards through three games. The transfer wideout also had two drops in the game versus Arizona last Friday.

K-State offensive coordinator Conor Riley said he felt for his wide receiver this week for his performance last week.

However, Riley still has all the confidence in the world in Cephas. He has had a great week of practice and has been locked in during his preparation. Cephas has had a good attitude throughout the week as well, which Riley has appreciated.

Avery contiuning to grow

Avery Johnson has still only started in four games in his career thus far. The one area Riley has seen growth was in his pre-snap recognition. Johnson is seeing things better and is grasping when and where to potentially slide protection.

The improvement is all related to getting more reps in an uncontrolled environment, not knowing what the defense is doing. The more Johnson plays the more he will continue to make great strides in that area.

Crowd noise impact

While Saturday will be the second Kansas State road game of the season, it will be the toughest environment and the loudest they’ve experienced. The Wildcats have been working with crowd noise this week in practice.

On Tuesday, K-State handled the noise well and did not have many breakdowns. Wednesday at practice was a different story. Apparently there was struggles and more errors. But Riley also knows that will be inevitable even when they are at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo.

The key is to not let them compound, to have resilience and a short memory and not let one error cause another.
