Quinn Ewers injury update: Steve Sarkisian updates Texas QB’s health following win

Quinn Ewers injury update: Steve Sarkisian updates Texas QB’s health following win

Texas got another blowout win against UTSA on Saturday by a score of 56-7, but it didn’t come without a cost. Starting quarterback Quinn Ewers went down with a strained oblique in the second quarter against the Roadrunners and never returned.

Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian didn’t have much to say postgame on a timetable for Ewers to return, as Texas will evaluate him further this week to determine how serious the injury is. However, he did note that the unfortunate blow allowed backup Arch Manning to earn some reps.

“It’s an oblique strain, an abdomen strain,” he said. “It remains to be seen kind of the seriousness of that and the length of that. We don’t think it’s anything structural or broken or things like that. It was an odd play. But again, that gave an opportunity for Arch to get some valuable playing time and experience.”

Manning, the former No. 1 recruit in the 2023 class, didn’t take long to make an impact on the game once he took over. He threw a 19-yard touchdown on his very first play to DeAndre Moore Jr. and did not look back after that.
