QB Cash Herrera makes his college decision

QB Cash Herrera makes his college decision

Class of 2026 quarterback Cash Herrera has made his college decision. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound San Diego native officially announced his verbal commitment to the Iowa coaching staff today and sees a bright future ahead for the Hawkeyes.

“Iowa feels like home and I’m ready to help bring home a national championship,” Herrera told HawkeyeReport.com.

Herrera first emerged on Iowa’s radar this past spring when new offensive coordinator Tim Lester flew to Southern California to watch him throw in person. That led to a camp invite in June, which is where he earned a scholarship offer on his first trip to the Hawkeye State. The Class of 2026 prospect then returned to campus for a game day visit in September to get a better feel for the program and the offense with Lester at the helm.

“We connected right off the bat and we have very similar ways of thinking when passing,” said Herrera. “He just got there and they are running a pro-ready offense that sets you up for the NFL right out the gate.”

A three-star prospect, Herrera had Iowa and UCLA as his two finalists, but other scholarship offers during the recruiting process included Minnesota, Washington State, Virginia Tech, Colorado State, San Diego State, Appalachian State, Columbia, Brown, and Yale.

As a sophomore, Herrera showed great playmaking ability for the Bishop’s School, completing 64.4% of his passes for 2,647 yards and 31 touchdowns. This year, as a junior, he is at 53.8% for 583 yards with seven touchdowns through four games. He also has 143 yards rushing and three touchdowns on the ground as well.

Overall, Herrera is commitment No. 2 for Iowa in the Class of 2026, joining four-star offensive lineman Carson Nielsen on the early list for the Hawkeyes.
