POLL POSITION: Ole Miss slips outside the Top 5 as it wraps up its non-conference slate

POLL POSITION: Ole Miss slips outside the Top 5 as it wraps up its non-conference slate

Ole Miss took care of its business in the non-conference portion of the 12-game schedule and avoided stubbing its toe, staying perfect on the season.

Instead, the Rebels (4-0) dominated the four-game slate in historic fashion with the offense lighting up the scoreboard like a pinball machine on title and rewriting the record books as fast as its tempo.

With Tennessee winning on the road at a ranked Oklahoma on Saturday the Volunteers leapfrogged Ole Miss in the Associated Press Poll, dropping the Rebels down a spot. They stayed put at No. 5 in this weeks Coaches Poll with Southeastern Conference play getting underway next weekend.

For the Rebels there is more history being made when it comes the polls. Not since the 2015 season have they been ranked this high at this stage of the season. Against Vanderbilt on September 26, 2015 and against Florida on October 3, 2015 Ole Miss was ranked No. 3 in the country before finishing the year at No. 10.

Taking a look at the upcoming SEC schedule, starting with visiting Kentucky (2-2, 0-2 SEC) on Saturday, there are currently three ranked opponents upcoming. Georgia (No. 2), LSU (No. 14) and the Sooners (No. 21) are still ahead this season.
