Pete Alonso hits go-ahead home run in ninth inning vs. Brewers

Pete Alonso hits go-ahead home run in ninth inning vs. Brewers

Pete Alonso, in what could have been his last at-bat with the New York Mets, has pulled through in a clutch situation for the team. Down two runs and only having two outs remaining on the season, Alonso did the impossible and hit a home run off Milwaukee Brewers closer Devin Williams. Alonso knew the ball was out the moment he made contact, going the opposite way.

Williams is usually one of the best closers in baseball, not giving up an earned run since Aug. 21. But he was all over the place pitching to Alonso and worked himself into a 3-1 hole. Needing to hit the zone to avoid a bases-loaded jam, Alonso made him pay.

The ESPN camera shows Alonso celebrating with an expletive as he rounds first base before cutting to the Mets dugout exploding. Against all the odds, their season is still alive and they will have a chance to advance to the NLDS.

You can check out the full moment from Alonso here.
