Penn State vs. Kent State odds: Early point spread released, How to Watch
Penn State hosts Kent State for a final tune up before opening Big Ten play, and the Nittany Lions are heavy favorites coming off a bye. But as Penn State’s Week 2 performance against a MAC foe showed, the point spread is no indication of competitive the game might be.
Even still, Penn State opened at 48.5-point favorites over Kent State, according to FanDuel. The over/under is set at 54.5 points.
With Drew Allar, Nick Singleton and Kayton Allen in the backfield, plus a defense looking to make a statement, Penn State is expected to roll out to an easy win.

While Penn State was on a week off, they did get an update on the state of an injured tight end, Andrew Rappleyea.
After suiting up for and playing 24 snaps in the season opener against West Virginia in Week 1, he wasn’t on the field for the scare against Bowling Green. Idle this week, Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin was short and sweet when describing where Rappleyea stands in his recovery.
“Yeah, that’s a long-term injury,” Franklin said on Tuesday. The details of his injury have not been revealed as of this report.
A product of the 2023 recruiting class, Rappleyea was one of the top tight ends in last year’s class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He was the No. 3 tight end in the country and No. 102 player overall as a four-star recruit.
All told, Penn State will be hoping to bounce back after playing a close game with Bowling Green at home in Week 2. Penn State trailed that game, 24-20, at the half and ended up pulling out a 34-27 win. Allar was 13-of-20 passing for 204 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. And Singleton and Allen ended up doing enough on the ground to outpace the Bowling Green offense, each of them going for more than 100 yards on the ground that day.
If the Penn State offense can run the ball like that and Allar can add a bit more pop — plus a stronger overall showing from the defense — the Nittany Lions should roll with ease to 3-0.
As for Kent State, the Golden Flashes were throttled by Tennessee, 71-0, and were down 37-0 after the first quarter.
