Paul Finebaum fired up about Alabama after Week 3, believes they are ‘way ahead of schedule’

Paul Finebaum fired up about Alabama after Week 3, believes they are ‘way ahead of schedule’

Entering Week 3, Alabama appeared to have plenty of questions. The Crimson Tide got the win against USF, but it took three quarters for the offense to get going – and the offensive line became a focal point.

Kalen DeBoer’s group then faced a test, heading to Camp Randall Stadium to take on Wisconsin. It’s safe to say, they passed as the Crimson Tide flew past the Badgers to get the 42-10 victory. That moved Alabama to 3-0, and it’s leading to more optimism about the rest of the year with a bye week looming.

It’s safe to say Paul Finebaum liked what he saw, too. He told Greg McElroy and Cole Cubelic he’s “fired up” about Alabama’s season after that showing, specifically noting the offensive line’s performance when he said DeBoer’s group is “way ahead of schedule” with a Week 4 bye.

“Today, they are, yeah,” Finebaum said on McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning when asked if the Tide are ahead of schedule. “Last week, they weren’t. “But I think this is the first test we’ve really had to a chance to analyze. I think it’s also important – with [Kadyn] Proctor in there, they’re a different team because you don’t have to play patchwork on the offensive line. But I came away really fired up about Alabama. I know that may be sounding different than a lot of people expected from a week ago.

“This is a perfect moment for them. They get a chance to get everybody even a little healthier. And when you juxtapose that vs. Georgia, I think Alabama folks have to feel pretty good right now. I don’t think what happened to Georgia Saturday night … is, really, a critical factor today. We see a lot of that from Georgia. But I feel absolutely fired up about Alabama, and I think they are way ahead of schedule.”

Alabama’s offense was firing on all cylinders in Saturday’s game, taking a 42-10 lead in the fourth quarter. Jalen Milroe had a huge day, completing 12 of 17 passes for 196 yards and three touchdowns in the air while adding a team-high 75 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Ty Simpson then took over to close it out.

DeBoer had high praise for Milroe and his ability to lead the offense during his postgame interview on FOX. He noted his quarterback’s dual-threat ability, which was on full display against Wisconsin.

“He’s huge. Just the threat and the way he manipulates the defense and how they have to play us,” DeBoer told Taft. “Eyes are in the backfield, you know, you don’t know where he’s going to be. He can take off and run any time, but he’s making the plays with his arm through the air today, too.”
