The SEC opener for the Longhorns in Austin will be an afternoon kickoff.

The first SEC game for the No. 1 Texas Longhorns at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin on Sept. 28 will be a six-day selection, the SEC announced on Monday.

Regardless of the specific time slot that the Longhorns end up in as the Bulldogs come to town — 2:30 p.m. Central or 3:15 p.m. Central — the game will be an afternoon kickoff with a high of 92 degrees forecast. The television carrier will be ABC, ESPN, or SEC Network.

The game time and television will be determined after next week’s games.

Under first-year head coach Jeff Lebby, Mississippi State is off to a 1-2 start with a 56-7 win over Eastern Kentucky in the season opener followed by a 30-23 loss to Arizona State and a shocking 41-17 defeat by Toledo.

The SEC opener marks the fifth meeting between the two programs with each team winning two games. In the last matchup in 1992, No. 21-ranked Mississippi State beat John Mackovic’s No. 25-ranked Texas team 28-10 in Austin as the Bulldogs ran for 242 yards and two touchdowns.
