National High School Football Rankings: Top 25 teams – Sept. 29

National High School Football Rankings: Top 25 teams – Sept. 29

Another weekend of high school football across the country is nearly in the books, with a few schools slated to play on Monday due to the effects of Hurricane Helene.

But every team in the national top-25 completed its scheduled games this week, and the rankings have been updated to reflect that:

The On3 Massey Ratings — which were officially used during the BCS era and have generated college high school sports team rankings since 1995 — rank sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory.

1. Mater Dei (Calif.)

Previous Rank: No. 1
The Monarchs remained undefeated after beating St. Frances Academy last weekend, and then were on a bye this week. They’ll return to the field for a major top-10 California matchup against Santa Margarita Catholic on Friday night. The On3 Massey Ratings currently give them a 99 percent chance of winning.

2. Duncanville (Texas)

Previous Rank: No. 2
Five-star quarterback Keelon Russell continued his early-season onslaught as the Panthers rolled past Skyline 63-14. They’ve now scored more than 100 points combined over the past two weeks and will look to keep that going in a massive showdown with DeSoto on Oct. 11.

3. St. John Bosco (Calif.)

Previous Rank: No. 3
The Braves now sit at 5-0 after easily dispatching a California top-25 Pittsburgh team on Friday night. Up next is a big battle against California No. 6 Orange Lutheran and quarterback TJ Lateef on Friday at home.

4. Atascocita (Texas)

Previous Rank: No. 4
Atascocita blew past a previously Texas-ranked C.E. King team 54-7 on Thursday night behind a massive performance from running back Tory Blaylock. The Oklahoma-bound star rushed for more than 200 yards and notched six total touchdowns in the rout. A top-10 road matchup with Summer Creek now awaits them on Friday night.

5. North Shore (Texas)

Previous Rank: No. 5
The Mustangs stayed unblemished with a 42-0 win over previously unbeaten Humble on Thursday night. They’ve now allowed just 16 points across their first four games, proving to be one of the most dominant defenses in the Lone Star State. 3-1 Kingwood hosts them on Thursday, with North Shore predicted to win 46-7 by the On3 Massey Ratings.

6. Southlake Carroll (Texas)

Previous Rank: No. 6
Southlake Carroll took care of business on Friday, walloping previously unbeaten Timber Creek 44-7. The Dragons are averaging better than 48 points per game across their five wins and will look to keep the streak going against Keller this week.

7. North Crowley (Texas)

Previous Rank: No. 7
The undefeated Dallas-area squad easily handled winless Mansfield Legacy 56-0 to move to 5-0 on the season. Behind a loaded offensive line with multiple Power 4 prospects, the Panthers are averaging 52.2 points per contest as they head to the back half of their schedule.

8. DeSoto (Texas)

Previous Rank: No. 8
DeSoto was tested by Waxahachie early, but ultimately pulled away for a 39-24 victory to get their fourth win of the season. A bye week awaits before they face No. 1 Duncanville is an enormous rivalry showdown on October 11.

9. Bishop Gorman (Nev.)

Previous Rank: No. 9
The Gaels waxed Liberty 49-0 on Friday night coming out of their bye week to move to 4-1 on the season. The schedule won’t get any easier though, as they welcome in an undefeated Foothill squad on Saturday night. On3 Massey Ratings predicts a blowout though, with the home team projected to win by a score of 48-6.

10. IMG Academy (Fla.)

Previous Rank: No. 10
IMG was slated to face Alabama’s No. 1 team, Phenix City Central, on Friday night but the game was canceled due to Hurricane Helene. They’ll be back on the road this week to face the No. 2 team in the Sunshine State, Venice.
