The Vanderbilt Commodores pulled off one of the most stunning upsets in college football history on Saturday night, as they managed to take down the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide in Nashville, Tennessee. Fans stormed the field and chaos ensued, as Vanderbilt fans tore down a goal post and put it in the Cumberland River. Not only did fans put it in the Cumberland River, but they had to walk it three miles simply to get it there.

Shortly after that, the Nashville Fire Department decided to get the goal post out of the Cumberland River. It’s expected to be turned over to Vanderbilt, where it will likely be sliced up for fans for a donation to the SEC fine, according to David S. Ewing.

Vanderbilt got a magical performance from their dynamic dual-threat of a quarterback, Diego Pavia. He cemented himself in Commodore school history forever, after he racked up over 300 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns. It was a historic win for Vanderbilt, in more ways than one.

It’s their first win over a Top-5 opponent in school history. Previously, they were 0-60. It’s also their first win over Alabama since 1984. It’s the most points Vanderbilt has scored against Alabama since 1906. And it’s only the fourth time that a No. 1 ranked Alabama team lost to an unranked opponent in 68 tries.

Vanderbilt still had to stave off another excellent performance from Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe and the Tide offensive attack. Milroe completed 18 of 24 passes for 310 yards, while tossing in one touchdown and one interception. Freshman star receiver Ryan Williams hauled in three catches for 82 yards and a touchdown.
