With the first race of the Round of 12 out of the way, the NASCAR Playoff standings have shifted around once again. There are some favorites who took a big hit in the points today and that could have major consequences in the next two weeks.

Kansas Speedway consistently produces great races with the Next Gen car. Today was no different as Ross Chastain put together a strong performance to take the win over William Byron and the other playoff drivers.

With only six races left before a champion is crowned, things are only ramping up. The NASCAR Playoffs head to Talladega next week, but before that let’s take a look at the points.

Updated NASCAR Playoff standings after Kansas

With Ross Chastain playing spoiler, or disruptor as Justin Marks likes to say, none of the NASCAR Playoff drivers have made it to the next round yet. No one in the NASCAR standings below are locked into the Round of 8, but we could see that change at Talladega next week. Here is the points breakdown below:

The big losers at Kansas were Chase Briscoe, Austin Cindric, and Tyler Reddick. Reddick is now below the cutline. He is the regular season champion. Now, he might not make it to the Round of 8 if he can’t turn it around.

Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson avoided disaster today. Both drivers had issues but they leave Kansas with at least a few points to the good side of the cutline. At this point, none of the drivers should feel comfortable or confident.

Talladega could take William Byron’s 38-point lead and leave him with single digits. He could even end up below the cutline. Kansas was the most straightforward race of the round. Playoff drivers had a shot to punch a ticket to the next round. Ross Chastain had other thoughts.

The NASCAR Playoff standings have been mixed up once again. Drivers struggled at Kansas and others excelled. It was another great race in the Next Gen era at this track.
