Mike Norvell and his confidence haven’t wavered despite Florida State’s 0-3 start and struggles offensively.

Norvell chalked it up to every team being different, despite having a carry over of players or complete roster turnover. However, the Florida State coach knows the reality: FSU isn’t good enough right now.

But based on his personal track record, Norvell thinks he can turn it around.

“Every team is unique in of itself, and that’s the challenge to every coach is,” Norvell said. “I can sit in front of you and tell you I haven’t been good enough. Like I tell our players it is my job for when we step on the field, for them to go out there and to be able to showcase who they are, what they are, you know, the identity of the offense, the identity of defense, special teams. I mean, that has to show up. And, you know, right now we’ve had an offense that in these first couple games … we haven’t had that identity … 

“I am ultimately confident in the ability of, you know, what I see, what I believe, you know, what we can do, and you know, helping put guys in a better position. My confidence is not wavering when it comes to that, but it’s still about the execution.” 

Norvell is 31-20 at Florida State since coming in 2020 and went 38-15 at Memphis over the course of four years. You don’t win 69 games in eight-plus seasons by accident.

But there are a ton of questions about Norvell through three games in 2024, particularly with the offense and quarterback DJ Uiagalelei.

“I can firmly stand in front of our players and say, ‘Look, I will be better,’” Norvell said. “And you know, it’s through the work, it’s through making sure that, you know, the things that we see, that we’re that we’re trying to do … We’ve got to be able to translate that. And so, you know, we’re all in this thing together. But you know, for however it sounds, I know my capabilities as well and, you know, I’m very confident in what that will be.”
