Michigan football reveals uniform combination for road game at Washington

Michigan football reveals uniform combination for road game at Washington

Michigan Wolverines football will take on Washington in Seattle for a rematch of last season’s national championship game. The Wolverines will wear their white jerseys with maize pants and white accessories, the team revealed on social media Friday afternoon.

Michigan was the home team for the Jan. 8 national title game, wearing blue jerseys and pants, while Washington was in all-white with its gold helmets.

This is Michigan’s first road tilt of the season.

From 2015-20, Michigan went with white pants on the road for all but one game under head coach Jim Harbaugh. However, in 2021 the Wolverines began mixing up their uniform combination. When wearing white jerseys since the 2021 campaign, the Wolverines have gone with white pants six times, maize pants for five games and blue pants for five outings. This will be the sixth time Michigan sports maize pants as a road team since 2021.

Here’s a look at what Michigan wore each of its last 16 road clashes.

While Washington is now in the Big Ten, it was a Pac-12 member just months ago. Michigan hasn’t won a road game at a Pac-12 opponent since 1989 at UCLA, losing four in a row since. Even then, that victory over the Bruins came with drama. U-M kicker J.D. Carlson made the last of his 4 field goals with 1 second left to lift the Wolverines to victory. They trailed, 23-15, with less than two minutes to go, before Elvis Grbac hit Derrick Walker for a touchdown pass with 1:35 remaining.

Husky Stadium is the setting for Saturday’s game. The 70,138-seat venue, located just off Lake Washington, is known for being one of the loudest in the country. On3’s Andy Staples named it the 18th-toughest place to play, one spot behind No. 17 Michigan Stadium.

“They throw down like the best of the Big Ten and the SEC,” Staples explained. “It’s pretty, but it gets plenty rowdy.”
