Following the team’s win over Georgia Tech, head coach Jeff Brohm shared an injury update on Louisville Cardinals players Maurice Turner and Quincy Riley.

Brohm explained that Turner unfortunately suffered an ankle injury. That’s why he was seen on the sidelines in a boot and was unable to play in the game. Then, for his part, Quincy Riley was dealing with a more minor injury that forced him to leave the win over Georgia Tech, though Brohm didn’t mention a specific issue.

“Maurice, unfortunately, had a high-ankle that we hope to get back,” Jeff Brohm said. “When he’ll be back, I don’t know. I’d rather not say it quite yet.”

Maurice Turner is a running back who looked like he was going to be a key piece of the Louisville offense this season. However, the Cardinals were without him for the win over Georgia Tech. With that, he’s only been able to play in two games this season.

It’s been a running back by committee situation as Louisville looks to replace the production that Turner offered. Isaac Brown leads the team in rushing with 173 yards on the season and 10.8 yards per carry. Meanwhile, Duke Watson is averaging 11.8 yards per carry and has 141 yards on the season. Not to be outdone, Keyjuan Brown has 126 rushing yards. In total, six players have rushed for eight different touchdowns.

“Quincy, I think will be back. I don’t think it’s anything long-term,” Brohm said. “But we had — Jadon [Thompson] got hurt on the sideline at the end, which we don’t want to lose him. He’s a steady player for [us]. I’ll look at it when I leave here and see where we’re at but we’ll have probably a few new pieces that have to be ready for this next week.”

For his part, Quincy Riley is a defensive back who is in his third season with Louisville after previously playing for Middle Tennessee State. In 2023, he would be named an All-ACC honorable mention after having a season where he made 49 total tackles and had three interceptions with 12 passes defended. Already in 2024, Riley has added to that interception total with another.

Next week, Louisville is going to be tested with a road trip to South Bend to play Notre Dame. After upsetting the Irish last season, the Cardinals know they’re going to be tested by a team looking to prove that it belongs among the top end of college football. Of course, a win for Louisville would also help catapult the Cardinals forward.
