Martin Truex Jr. to return to 2017 Bass Pro Shops paint scheme at Homestead
Martin Truex Jr. is going back in time with his paint scheme for the NASCAR Cup Series Homestead race on Sunday. Joe Gibbs Racing revealed Truex’s paint scheme for the upcoming race, the 2017 Bass Pro Shops look that helped him win the Cup Series championship.
It’s fitting for Truex to use the throwback paint scheme since his full-time racing career will end next month. Earlier this year, the 44-year-old announced his retirement from full-time racing after competing in the Cup Series since 2006. During the championship season in 2017, Truex won seven races, including the Championship race at Homestead.
“It’s just overwhelming,” Truex said after winning the title, per NASCAR.com. “To think about all the rough days and bad days, the days that we couldn’t run 20th, to be here — I never thought this day would come, and to be here is so unbelievable.”
This year, Truex reached the playoffs despite not winning a race. He was eliminated from the playoffs at the end of the Round of 16. It’s been reported that Truex will compete in the 2025 Daytona 500, and it’s believed he will be driving for 23XI Racing. But with 23XI and Front Row Motorsports in the middle of a lawsuit with NASCAR, Truex is not sure what’s going to happen.

“I should probably only have one so I don’t know,” Truex explained, via Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports. “I don’t own a car so it’s going to be depending on a lot of people to figure it out. So, hopefully, a couple of Xfinity races and the Daytona 500. We’ll see.”
He added: “As far as I know, as far as I know. … I mean as far as I know it’s all going still. I think we’re good. You never know these days, things change in a hurry, right? A lot going on like you said, I have no clue. But I feel confident I have a contract so that’s a good sign, right?”
Fans can see Truex’s throwback paint scheme when he competes in the Straight Talk Wireless 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
