The Alabama Crimson Tide were able to jump out to a quick start against the Georgia Bulldogs, finishing the first quarter with a 21-0 lead. With that, head coach Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide were set up to earn their win.

Much has been made about that fast start since the game. Clearly, Alabama came out ready, and former Alabama running back Mark Ingram offered some insight into that fast start and Kalen DeBoer’s pregame speech on The Triple Option.

“I think all of us, if you said we’re gonna be up 21-0 at the end of the first quarter, we all would’ve been like, ‘Okay, whatever,’” Mark Ingram said. “But when I was in the locker room, the energy, the speech Coach DeBoer had for those players…He was just like, ‘We’re a tough bunch. We’re a physical bunch. Let’s go out there and we’re gonna give them Hell all day.’ And the players were like ‘Ooooh.’ So, he must not talk like that too often, you know what I mean? Because it was like, they were ready to roll. They were ready to roll.”

Alabama ended up needing every bit of its fast start to earn the win. Georgia came charging back in the game on the back of a 19-point fourth quarter. At one point, the Bulldogs even took the lead before a 75-yard pass to Ryan Williams helped the Crimson Tide to take the lead back late. Without the hot start, that game may not have ended the same way.

“They walked out and the stadium was crazy,” Ingram said. “I’m recording. I’m getting them feels again, Coach. I’m getting them feels again. I ran out with the team. So, you could feel the energy in the stadium and, Coach, when you have a game like that, what’s the one thing you want to do? You want to start fast. You want to start fast and that’s exactly what this team did.”

Another key for Mark Ingram was the job that Kalen DeBoer has done developing Jalen Milroe at quarterback. That was on full display early in the game.

“You mentioned it. Jalen Milroe going 11 for 11. 21 points in the first quarter. Getting turnovers. The team, even when they were behind the chains, Milroe his ability to improvise with his legs,” Ingram said. “His ability to go through his progressions, find his receivers, hit the running backs on the wheel routes. His maturation as a quarterback has been tremendous. It has been extraordinary. He’s going through his progressions. You talked about that earlier in the season, Coach…you talked about him growing as a quarterback and having to go through his progressions, and you can see it. You can see him going one, two, three, out, check down.”

Now, Alabama will look to continue its hot starts in SEC games with Vanderbilt being the next game on the Crimson Tide’s schedule. Certainly, a similar start to the one against Georgia will help Alabama avoid falling into the trap game.

“So, what do you want to do in a matchup like that? You want to start fast and that’s exactly what they did,” Ingram concluded.
