Local big-time WR Jordon Gidron announces South Carolina commitment, big enrollment plans

Local big-time WR Jordon Gidron announces South Carolina commitment, big enrollment plans

Columbia (S.C.) Ridge View four-star wide receiver Jordon Gidron — one of the top overall prospects in the Midlands and the entire country — announced not only a commitment to South Carolina Friday evening but also that he’d be reclassifying to the 2025 class to get a head start on his college career.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Gidron has been a frequent visitor making the short drive down the road to South Carolina, where he was recruited by wide receivers coach Mike Furrey.

“The atmosphere at South Carolina was electric!” Gidron told On3 about his experience when Carolina hosted LSU. “The energy in the stadium was definitely high, the game was close, all the recruits were really into the game. Willy B is always a great experience!

“The Gamecocks continue to excite me as a program because I can see how Coach (Shane) Beamer is developing them as a team and I like how Coach Furrey is developing his players.”

Gidron chose the Gamecocks over offers from a variety of top schools including Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Florida State, North Carolina, LSU, Florida, and Tennessee, among many others.

Prior to reclassifying to 2025, Gidron was considered the top prospect in the state of South Carolina for 2026, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average of the four major recruiting media services. He was ranked the No. 64 overall prospect and No. 10 wide receiver in that class.

In three games played this year, Gridron has 17 catches for 121 yards, according to Max Preps.

Gidron becomes the fourth wide receiver commitment in the Gamecocks’ 2025 class, joining Lex Cyrus, Brian Rowe, and Jayden Sellers on the commit list. He is the 20th overall pledge in the class.

Gidron’s decision to reclassify follows a recent trend popularized by Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams, who was certainly not the first but is currently the most high-profile player to enroll an entire year early for college.

The speedy wide receiver has been one of the best freshmen in the country this season.

A fellow local wide receiver and priority Gamecocks target, Irmo’s Donovan Murph also announced plans this week to reclassify from 2026 to 2025. South Carolina, Alabama, and Clemson are considered the favorites to land him.

Gidron’s pledge could be the start of a big recruiting stretch for the Gamecocks who are hosting multiple top prospects on campus this weekend for the Ole Miss game, including Murph and Rock Hill (S.C.) four-star wide receiver target Malik Clark, who recently decommitted from Florida State.
