Lance Heard not listed on Tennessee injury report for Arkansas

Lance Heard not listed on Tennessee injury report for Arkansas

Tennessee Football on Wednesday night issued its first injury report of the week before Saturday’s game at Arkansas and starting left tackle Lance Heard was not on the list. The Vols will update the injury report three more times before Saturday’s game Reynolds Razorback Stadium.

Heard has missed Tennessee’s last two games due to an ankle issue. He didn’t travel with the Vols to Oklahoma for the 25-15 win over the Sooners. Starting right tackle John Campbell, who missed time at Oklahoma, was not on Wednesday’s injury report.

The other updates will be Thursday night, Friday night and then again at 6 p.m. ET Saturday, ahead of the 7:30 kickoff (TV: ABC) between No. 4 Tennessee (4-0, 1-0 SEC) and Arkansas (3-2, 1-1).

Tennessee coach Josh Heupel said last week that he expected both Heard and Campbell to be ready to play for the Vols at Arkansas.

“I feel like we’ll have both of those guys when we get to Fayetteville,” Heupel said.

Backup tackles Dayne Davis, Larry Johnson played at Oklahoma

Without Heard at Oklahoma, Dayne Davis started at left tackle and played 75 snaps, tied with Nico Iamaleava, Javontez Spraggins, Cooper Mays and Andrej Karic for the highest snap counts in the win.

Campbell started at right tackle and played 34 snaps at right tackle. Larry Johnson played 41 snaps after replacing Campbell at right tackle. Davis played 39 snaps against Kent State, Johnson played 31 snaps and Campbell played 24.

Heard was listed as questionable on Tennessee’s first two injury reports before the Oklahoma game and was downgraded to out on Friday.

Heard was one of the top offensive linemen in the NCAA Transfer Portal during the offseason before committing to Tennessee in January.

He was a five-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, signing with LSU as the No. 11 overall player in the On3 Industry Ranking. He was the No. 4 offensive tackle in the country and the No. 2 player in the state of Louisiana, out of Neville High School in Monroe.

Heard transferred after his freshman season with the Tigers with juniors Will Campbell and Emery Jones starting at the tackle spots.

A Closer Look: SEC Availability Reports

The SEC in August announced availability reports for football, basketball and baseball.

“This availability reporting policy is intended to reduce pressure from outside entities seeking participation information,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey, “and represents a commitment of our 16 institutions to provide enhanced transparency to support efforts to protect our student-athletes and the integrity of competition.”

Players will be listed as available, probable, questionable, doubtful or out for their next game. On game day the updates will include available, game-time decision or out.

Schools of who fail to provide accurate and timely availability reports will be subject to penalties from $25,000, for first-time offenders, to $100,000 for “third and further” offenses in football. Men’s basketball, women’s basketball and baseball fines will be between $15,000 and $25,000.
