KSR GAMEDAY: Catch the MACtion Fever as Kentucky Hosts Ohio
The MAC is off to an outstanding start, with two wins over Power Four opponents through the first three weeks of the season. Kentucky will try to avoid being the latest casualty to the conference when the Ohio Bobcats come to Lexington for a 12:45 pm EST kickoff at Kroger Field.
Ohio already has one road trip to a Power Four conference foe under its belt, falling 38-22 to Syracuse in the season opener. The Bobcats lean on Anthony Tyus III. The running back who transferred from Northwestern ranks No. 8 in the FBS in rushing yards per game after picking up 200+ against the Orange. It’s a good thing Kentucky has one of the best run defenses in America, ranking second in success rate and in the top ten in rushing yards allowed per game.
In that season-opening loss to Syracuse, Kyle McCord picked apart the Ohio secondary, throwing for 354 yards and four touchdowns. This could be the ideal opportunity for Kentucky to find something in the passing game. Even though the offense found an identity in the ground game in the loss to Georgia, the Cats need Brock Vandagriff to find a rhythm of his own. Kentucky is last in the SEC in every passing category.
The Cats lost two games in the first three weeks and each SEC loss looked completely different than the other. Kentucky is motivated to get back into the win column and prove they have turned a corner.
“This is not a final product in week two or three. It’s a constant state of improvement. That’s the message from them, from myself for everybody. We gotta keep taking the next step,” said offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan.

Kentucky Honors Six New Hall of Famers
It’s Hall of Fame weekend at the University of Kentucky. On Friday night, the UK Hall of Fame added six new members. The football team is represented by Corey Peters, the defensive tackle from Louisville who earned First Team All-SEC honors in 2009 before spending 13 years in the NFL. Memories of Jodie Meeks’ 54-point performance will certainly resurface following his induction. There are also a pair of Gold Medalists back in town, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone.
Fit Check and Weather Report
Even though it’s Sept. 21, it feels like we’re in the dead of summer. It’s going to be hot and humid this afternoon at a sunny Kroger Field, with temperatures in the mid-80s in Lexington. Throw on a little sunscreen before you leave your tailgate.
Kentucky is wearing as much white as possible in the heat. For the first time this year, Kentucky will wear white helmets and pants with blue jerseys. Under Mark Stoops, Kentucky is 24-6 when wearing blue jerseys and white pants.
College Football on TV
Friday night gave us an overtime game and a walk-off field goal. Oh, Nebraska. Never stop being Nebraska. If last night was any indication, we’re in for a real treat this Saturday.
