Kentucky’s win over Ole Miss among Week 5’s most-watched games

Kentucky’s win over Ole Miss among Week 5’s most-watched games

At one point during Kentucky’s 20-17 win against Ole Miss over the weekend, 6.5 million people were tuning in to see the Wildcats’ upset victory.

On Tuesday ESPN revealed some of the TV numbers from Week 5 action across its family of networks. As the first game of ABC’s tripleheader, Kentucky vs. Ole Miss drew an average of four million viewers with a peak of 6.5 million. It was also the most-watched noon game from any Week 5 matchup, which included a Top 25 matchup between Oklahoma State and Kansas State.

Those figures pale in comparison to what Alabama’s thrilling 41-34 win over Georgia did though. That game brought in 12 million viewers with a peak of 14.1 million. It’s the most-watched regular season game on any ESPN platform since 2017 and the most-streamed regular season game of all time on ESPN.

This isn’t the first time this season we’ve seen Kentucky bring in millions of observers either. During the Wildcats’ 13-12 loss to then-No. 1 Georgia, an average of 6.7 million people tuned in for that game on ABC — the most of any Week 3 matchup. It was also the most-watched game in the history of the Kentucky-Georgia series. Additionally, Kentucky’s 31-6 loss to the Gamecocks ranked sixth in most-watched games during Week 2 with 2.73 million viewers on ABC.

Millions of college football fans will have to wait another week before seeing Mark Stoops‘ team in action again. Kentucky is on a bye this week and will return to play on Saturday, Oct. 12 at home against Vanderbilt.
