Kalen DeBoer praises Jalen Milroe after dominant performance in win vs. Wisconsin

Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe is continuing to play better and better under first-year head coach Kalen DeBoer.

The junior was 12-for-17 passing for 196 yards and three touchdowns on Saturday against Wisconsin, leading the Crimson Tide to a 42-10 victory. Milroe also rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Alabama rushing attack.

After the game, DeBoer praised his starting quarterback for his strong play.

“He’s huge. Just the threat and the way he manipulates the defense and how they have to play us,” Kalen DeBoer told Fox. “Eyes are in the backfield, you know, you don’t know where he’s going to be. He can take off and run any time, but he’s making the plays with his arm through the air today, too.”

It was an impressive performance by Alabama on the road. Wisconsin starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke went out early in the game, which obviously aided the Crimson Tide defense.

However, the Alabama offense put on a show against what was supposed to be a really good Badgers defense.

Late in the second quarter was particularly pivotal for Alabama. The Crimson Tide got a stop and then scored right before the half to take a 21-3 lead into the break.

“I think finishing out the second quarter the way we did, with the stop and then the touchdown. Then coming back and doing the same thing in the third quarter [was the highlight],” DeBoer said. “Those are small things that add up and that was a big part of the game and the momentum.”

Jalen Milroe also spoke with Fox after the game. Milroe detailed what was clicking for the Crimson Tide. Alabama put up 407 yards of offense thanks to a balanced attack.

“I think the biggest thing we didn’t do was get complacent. Every rep we had, we tried to maximize as much as possible, and trying to have the 1-0 mentality each and every time we got on the field,” Milroe said. “It wasn’t perfect, but we did a really good job uplifting each other on the sideline. Then, when we got on the field, it was all about attacking the task at hand, which was 1-0 and build great drives.”

Alabama scored 21 points in each half in the impressive performance. Milroe also praised the play of the Alabama offensive line.

“Those guys are the foundation of the offense, the offensive line. We go as far as they go,” he said. “It’s awesome to have those additional guys up front. I’m proud of those guys for the tenacity, the grit, the fire they all had together and the pride they played together. It’s awesome to have those guys. I’m just looking forward to just keep playing with them.”
