Jeff Brohm on questionable officiating vs. Notre Dame: ‘I don’t always agree’

Jeff Brohm on questionable officiating vs. Notre Dame: ‘I don’t always agree’

Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm voiced his displeasure with the officials multiple times during Saturday’s loss to Notre Dame.

He made it clear again during his press conference on Monday that there were some calls that went against the Cardinals that he was not happy about. One in particular was an offsetting pass interference call midway through the third quarter.

The Cardinals were set to have a first down near the red zone while trailing 24-14, but instead pass interference was called on both the offense and defense.

Louisville replayed the second-and-8 play and ended up going backwards the rest of the drive before punting. Brohm was asked about the officiating on Monday and brought up that call in particular.

“Well, I don’t always agree with what the officials are saying,” Jeff Brohm said. “I’ve never really seen a double-interference pass interference call like that, so that one, I don’t understand that one still to this point.”

Brohm also had an issue with one spot in particular that happened on fourth down, leading to the Cardinals turning the ball over on downs.

Still, he said overall that Louisville had opportunities to make more plays and take the game out of the officials’ hands but the Cardinals were unable to do so.

“On the spots, you know what, I mean they spot it where they see it,” Jeff Brohm said. “The first fourth down, the fact that the ball went out of bounds over here, but yet they brought the ball out here to measure it, I didn’t understand why they don’t measure it right where it went out of bounds. They brought it out and then they moved it back. I mean it was a little discombobulated, in my opinion.

“But in the end, you know what, we’ll get some calls, some calls we won’t get. You’ve gotta live with it, overcome it. We’ve gotta be better. And we’ve gotta convert those better.”

Louisville ended up falling 31-24 to Notre Dame on Saturday. Despite some calls that Brohm didn’t agree with, the Cardinals had a chance to tie the game late, before turning the ball over on downs near midfield.

Still, Brohm’s team showed that it can compete with one of the top programs in the country. Up next, Louisville will try to get back on track this Saturday when the Cardinals host SMU. Despite dropping the game to Notre Dame, Louisville is still 3-1 overall and 1-0 in ACC play.
