Jake Majors fires shot at Dallas Cowboys amid answer on Texas no. 1 ranking

Jake Majors fires shot at Dallas Cowboys amid answer on Texas no. 1 ranking

Sunday at 1 p.m. CT means two things in the football world. Everyone is about an hour into their NFL viewing experience, either watching their favorite team or maybe the Red Zone channel. Texas Longhorns starting center Jake Majors is no different, watching the Dallas Cowboys play the New Orleans Saints.

Around the same time, the AP poll was released and gave us a new No. 1 team in college football. Texas had earned the spot for the first time since 2008 when Mack Brown and Colt McCoy were the face of the program. A big moment for the Longhorns, speaking to the success had under head coach Steve Sarkisian.

Like many Texas fans originally from the Dallas area, Majors was informed of the news of moving up to No. 1 while watching the Cowboys game.

“Pretty sure I was on the couch watching the Cowboys get smoked,” Majors said via Brian Davis of A to Z Sports.

Majors is a native of Prosper, just around 35 miles north of Dallas, and an hour and a half northeast of AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX. Anybody in the Lone Star State who had their television on FOX for the noon CT kickoff window had the Cowboys playing on their screen.

Disaster then followed on the Saints put a beating on with strong performances from Derek Carr and Alvin Kamara. Not a fun day for the Cowboys as they are left scratching their head following a 1-1 beginning to the 2024 season.

There might be some disappointment for Majors in seeing his hometown NFL team once again get destroyed by a Kyle Shanahan (a former Texas wide receiver) offense. But he has to be proud of how the Longhorns have played thus far.

Sarkisian has put together some good offensive displays of his own, with the latest occurring Saturday against UTSA. Majors was even snapping the ball back to Arch Manning instead of Quinn Ewers at times but Texas did not slow down.

The goal is now to do the same this upcoming week against Louisiana-Monroe. Texas has one more nonconference game on the schedule before beginning SEC play against Mississippi State. A win would give the Longhorns their second consecutive 4-0 record to begin a season.

By the time the next AP poll is released, Majors might be settling into his couch to watch the Cowboys once again. The Baltimore Ravens will be coming to town, with kickoff scheduled for 3:25 p.m. CT.
