The funding, led by Exor Ventures, will support US expansion — including a new office in Detroit.

Inbolt, a Paris-based 3D vision and AI startup, has raised €15 million ($16.7 million) in Series A funding.

The startup wants to make factory production lines more efficient by using 3D vision and AI to help guide robotic arms with greater precision and speed.

Inbolt’s software scans industrial environments, ingesting large amounts of 3D data to create a digital twin. Using this data, robotic arms can autonomously locate the correct parts. In other words, it helps factory robots ‘see.’

“We use 3D vision and AI to make factory floor robots smarter,” Albane Dersy, Inbolt cofounder, told Business Insider. “Robots are blind machines which need to work in a constrained environment, which is very expensive to constrain. By adding a camera and our software, they can analyze data around them in real time, which helps manufacturers looking to increase automation.”

Founded in 2019, Inbolt will target sectors like the automotive industry, logistics, and electronics.

The startup lists Stellantis, Ford, Whirlpool, Thyssen-Krup, and Atlas as customers.

Exor Ventures led the Series A funding round, which also included additional funding from Bpifrance. Existing investors MIG Capital, SOSV, and BNP Paribas Développement also participated.

“The rise of robots and AI put us in the spotlight of a few funds and we really have the numbers and data to back it up,” Dersy added. “Customers really like our solutions because they are pushing more and more toward automation.”

The company will use the funding to expand its presence in the US, with an office in Detroit, and is also exploring growth opportunities in Japan. The funding will also increase the startup’s headcount to around 45 team members as it looks to support customers locally.
