The Longhorns return home to take on a familiar foe from right down the road.

The No. 2 Texas Longhorns went into one of the toughest places to play in the country and imposed their will on the Michigan Wolverines. Now, they come home for another non-conference tune-up against the UTSA Roadrunners, who are a week removed from being on the receiving end of a beatdown at the hands of rival Texas State.

Part of the Roadrunners’ problem is establishing an offensive identity and playmakers in the post-Frank Harris era. Their offense was unable to generate any momentum against the Bobcats’ defense, while GJ Kinne’s offense carved up the defense efficiently to grab the school’s first-ever win in the rivalry series. The Roadrunners need to figure out who they will be on both sides of the ball and create any momentum heading into the conference season.

Texas announced itself as a legitimate national championship contender by dismantling the Wolverines on their home field, while Quinn Ewers jumped up many Heisman and NFL Draft considerations with his performance a week ago. To build on that momentum, the Longhorns will have to do what they did in the season opener against the Colorado State Rams, dominate an outmatched opponent on their home field.

Quinn Ewers may be the best quarterback in the country. QB1 was calm and collected. His footwork in the pocket was impressive. He didn’t turn the ball over once. He didn’t let Michigan’s DL impact his ability to throw the ball.

Jeff Traylor’s program is trying to find its footing after longtime quarterback Frank Harris moved on from football, multiple other stars graduated, and Traylor’s ability to develop players turned UTSA into a feeder program for larger schools through the NCAA transfer portal.
