NC State quarterback Grayson McCall was carted off with an injury after losing a fumble against Wake Forest in the first quarter Saturday.

Going into Saturday, McCall was a game-time decision to play, per On3’s Pete Nakos. After pregame warmups, he was cleared to play.

Unfortunately, McCall went down with an injury and it did not look good.

McCall took off and ran the ball himself but was hit hard and sandwiched between three Wake Forest defenders. The QB’s helmet came off during the play.

Later on the CW broadcast, it was revealed McCall was transported to a local hospital. The Demon Deacons led the Wolfpack 3-0 in the first quarter at the time of McCall’s injury.

McCall also got hurt in Week 3 against Louisiana Tech and missed the rest of the game as a result. That kept him out against Clemson as NC State suffered a resounding 59-35 loss to the Tigers.

CJ Bailey and Lex Thomas both stepped in at quarterback in that game.

McCall is in his first season at NC State after transferring from Coastal Carolina. Through three games under center, he has thrown for 476 yards and three touchdowns, along with two interceptions.

Grayson McCall arrived in Raleigh as a highly touted transfer after five years at Coastal. He came in as the No. 135 overall player and No. 20-ranked quarterback in the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings.
