After losing two of its last three games, No. 11 Frederick Douglass dominated No. 5 Corbin 35-14 Friday night at The Farm to get its season back on track. The Broncos evened up the all-time series between the two teams at one win apiece, as the Redounds won a 6-0 shutout last season.

Entering Friday night’s matchup with the Broncos, the Corbin Redhounds had won 41 consecutive regular season games. Its last loss came on September 11, 2020 to Beechwood (20-14). Corbin’s 21-point loss to Douglass is its largest in a regular season game since Mayfield defeated the Redounds 45-21 on September 21, 2018.

Both teams scored touchdowns on their opening drives, but Douglass would outscore the Redhounds 28-0 over the next 33 minutes of game action to take a commanding 35-7 lead. Corbin made it a 21-point game with eight minutes remaining, but it was already too late.

Senior wide receiver Aveion Chenault of Frederick Douglass had a big night, hauling in three receiving touchdowns. He’s now up to nine on the season, which ranks second most in the state of Kentucky. The three-star multi-sport athlete committed to Western Michigan back in June.

Chenault hauled in a 21-yard passing touchdown from junior quarterback Jaxon Strautman to open the scoring for the Broncos. Following a Kade Elam rushing touchdown to knot the game at seven apiece, Chenault then caught a 20-yard touchdown pass in the back of the end zone to give Douglass its lead back with eight minutes remaining in the second quarter.

Not comfortable with its seven-point lead heading into the break, Strautman rushed for a five-yard touchdown with just over 40 seconds remaining in the half to push the lead to 14. Both teams traded punts to open the second half, but a 26-yard passing touchdown to Chenault with 6:26 remaining in the third quarter put this game in the dirt.

The future Western Michigan Bronco and current Frederick Douglass Bronco nearly finished with four touchdowns, but a punt return touchdown was overturned due to a penalty.

Ahead of Kentucky’s matchup with Ohio on Saturday, defensive coordinator Brad White stopped by The Farm to support four-star EDGE rusher Cedric Works Jr, who committed to Kentucky back in June.

Frederick Douglass, who will receive a nice bump in the upcoming KSR Top 25 Rankings, continues its gauntlet of a schedule next week when it hosts No. 3 Male at home. Corbin will look to bounce back against Hazard (shoutout Coach Chandler) next Friday night at home.
