Four-star PF Brady Koehler commits to Notre Dame men’s basketball

Four-star PF Brady Koehler commits to Notre Dame men’s basketball

Second-year head coach Micah Shrewsberry scored a significant win in the 2025 recruiting class on Monday. Indianapolis Cathedral power forward Brady Koehler, a four-star prospect, committed to Notre Dame.

Koehler chose the Irish over Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Iowa and Northwestern. The 6-foot-9 wing with a 7-foot-plus wingspan is the No. 90 player and No. 21 power forward in the On3 Industry Ranking.

Koehler’s commitment is Shrewsberry’s first from the state of Indiana, and it comes from his high school alma mater, Cathedral. It also comes from a player Notre Dame believes has legitimate NBA upside, given his length, athleticism, scoring and shot-blocking.

“I think [Shrewsberry] is a great coach, from what I’ve seen and the practices that I’ve went to,” Koehler told Blue & Gold in August. “He really puts a lot of trust into his guys, and he makes it really known that he wants to coach me. I think he’s a great coach, from what I’ve seen.”

Koehler (pronounced KAY-ler) is a late riser in the 2025 class, spending his freshman season on the freshman and junior varsity teams at Cathedral. He moved up to varsity as a sophomore, but according to MaxPreps, he only played in 14 games.

Koehler was stuck behind several older Division I basketball prospects, including Michigan State’s Xavier Booker and Illinois’ Jake Davis. But as a junior, now grown to 6-foot-9, he became the main show. Koehler averaged 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds for Cathedral and helped lead the Fighting Irish (yes, the Fighting Irish) to the state championship game.

He also made 50 percent (132-of-264) of his field goals and 39 percent (32-of-83) of his three-pointers as a junior.

Notre Dame noticed early, becoming Koehler’s third high-major offer Jan. 5. He officially visited South Bend the weekend of Sept. 7, and he gave the Irish his pledge two weeks later.

“[Shrewsberry’s] pitch to me is just the offense that they play,” Koehler said. “It’s really similar to my offense at Cathedral, so it’s not going to be much of a transition. It’s really free, and great ball movement. Just the style of play that they have would be really fun to play in.”

Koehler is Notre Dame’s first commitment in the 2025 class, which the Irish hopes will include more players in the near future. Four-star guard Ryder Frost and five-star small forward Jalen Haralson visited when Koehler did, and the Irish will get four-star center Tommy Ahneman on campus Sept. 28.

Scouting report on Notre Dame PF commit Brady Koehler

“Brady Koehler has great length with a thin but projectable frame. Where he makes the most noise is on the defensive end. He is an instinctive weak side shot blocker, using some twitchy athleticism and timing. He is also aggressive in the passing lanes and is comfortable toggling between both forward positions on defense. Offensively, he shows flashes. He has some pick-and-pop touch out to three and plays above the rim in transition. Koehler needs to continue adding weight to continue holding up on the block. Would like to see him adding to his offensive arsenal and continuing to become a more consistent shooter. The upside with Koehler’s game is clear and he has some useful, translatable tools to continue building upon. Defensively, there are some unique qualities in place.”
